Updating In A Winter Wonderland

Finally got off my ass and finished the next pages. It wasn't as hard as I imagined, getting back into the groove. I hate losing momentum because suddenly every hour of coloring feels like an hour instead of five minutes, and I'm tempted to take breaks way more often than my wrist requires. Such a slacker.

This bitch-ass virus is still kicking my ass, but at least I've got most of my energy back. It adds more oomph to my morning coughing fits, but shoveling a foot of fine powdery snow off the front walk wasn't the thrill-ride of the century that it normally is. Alas.

It snowed like an albino suicide bomber all day today. I wish I could go sledding or something, but apparently I have actual work to do. And no sled. Instead, I will read Calvin & Hobbes in the comfy chair, and that will be just as much fun without the unsettling extremity damage of frostbite.

Tomorrow is expected to be between -15 and 0 degrees at the highest. I can already tell this winter is going to rock.

Photo Post Mar/2008

Thing One: It shot up to 55 degrees f yesterday! I was outside in my t-shirt and enjoying the sunshine. Went for a walk at the riverside and found boulders of ice piled up in heaps from the river-bottom construction work.

Thing Two: I put a protest party hat on the Captain so he can celebrate L. Wrong Hubbard's birthday a few days early. He can't come to the real party so I thought I would cheer him up. I don't think it worked :(

Thing Three: HAHAHA I FOUND MY HAIR-DYE. AND IT DIDN'T GET RUINED BY THE COLD!

Reference for myself, in case I ever lose or need to replace the colors in the future:

V-Manic Panic "Plum" (perfect)
R-Manic Panic "Wildfire" (perfect)
O-N/A (Mix of R and Y, perfect)
Y-Manic Panic "Electric Banana*" (might try another less green shade)
G-Special Effects "Iguana Green" (perfect)
B-Special Effects "Electric Blue" (a bit too dark)

I want to see if I can find a slightly brighter blue next time. Electric stays in for ages but it's dark as hell at first. "Blue Mayhem" looks good.

Dog park update: the total of people who have complained in my presence about the chocolate lab's owners is now up to 4. All of them share my perceptions on the problem behavior, and one actually told me the owners aggressively refused to take their dog to the smaller "can't play nice" section of the park even after the lab bit another dog.

Time to email the website for the park and find out what step 2 is, I reckon. I assume somebody with authority and a sharp tongue will need to call them.

The guy with the Great Dane showed up again. That dog is such a fucking trip! Its slow-motion frolicking strikes awe into my heart every time I see it. It's like watching a giraffe try to tap-dance. Itchy dog, too. I scratched his rump a few times and he leaned on me and shimmied from side to side like a lunatic.

Game news: One Piece Unlimited Adventure is amazing, fantastic and a total blast--but it has FUCKED UP MY WRISTS SO BAD. why do all the coolest attacks require you to flail around with the WII-ener? I think I need to take a few days off to let the braces fix the damage.

And of course, this week's update will be late. It can't be helped; I've been enlisted to make ten signs (Four four us, six spares for the folks who made their own with ballpoint pens and wrinkled notebook paper)), and the big day is Saturday. I'll be swamped til then. All signs point to a more eventful protest--the Cult of Scientology has been trying unsuccessfully to get a restraining order against Anonymous so they can't protest on the public street in Clearwater!

I Like Good News

Kendra Wiseman posted:

Hi Everyone,

Today, I go public. Today, I no longer hide behind a pseudonym. As of today, a new website, www.exscientologykids.com, launches.

This website was created as a collaboration between Astra Woodcraft, Jenna Miscavige Hill, and myself, Kendra Wiseman. It contains the stories of numerous children who grew up in Scientology, as well as easy-to-understand critical information for Scientology kids, and for people who are new to the Scientology critics movement.

I want to thank everyone on this forum who has supported me over the last two years while I dealt with disconnection. Your efforts, and the efforts of Anonymous, have made me feel safe speaking up. I want to afford the same luxury to others who may not feel so safe.

To read my story, and the stories of other children who grew up in Scientology, please check out the stories index on our site, which can be found at http://www.exscientologykids.com/storiesindex.html

If you have a story of growing up in Scientology, long or short, with your name or anonymously, we will publish it.

Thanks again. Enjoy.

Mom, Dad, Uncle, Aunt, Cousins, Brother, Nephews and Nieces: I'm sorry, as I know this will upset you all further. I do feel that this truly is the greatest good for the greatest number of dynamics. I love you all. Please don't let them convince you that I'm a suppressive person. Remember me.

Much Love,
Kendra

Also happymaking: The thermometer in the backyard went all the way up to 45 this morning! It snowed a few more inches last night over the muck and ice, and now the sunshine is making the world almost too bright to look at. It's really windy, and all the wind chimes in the neighborhood are going at once.

I'll miss winter, but ooooh I can't wait for spring.

I know I'm only dreaming

No art for like two weeks, then suddenly BLAM, I just HAVE to do two time-intensive pieces in 24 hours or I'll just plain bust. Go look for consistency in midwinter Lukas, I reckon.

The other night it got down to -20 fahrenheit, -26 if you count wind chill (and you really should, because HOLY FUCK LIPS ARE SUPPOSED TO MOVE!).

On the night of my Mom's death anniversary, my roomies took me out for dinner. It was really cool of them to drag me out of my head for a while. Came back home, got kinda weepy, watched some YouTube videos, got the giggles. Around 5 AM I drank two wine coolers back to back and within 20 minutes I was too dizzy to sit up anymore. Sadly I had to pee every three minutes for the next several hours as a result of said wine coolers, which interfered with sleeping a bit. Woke up 11 hours later still very drowsy. Spent the entire day half-asleep, watching Azumanga Daioh and then got into a flurry of arts that took out the rest of my night.

The strange thing is that, now that a full year has passed, I have lost that horrible feeling that Mom is somehow still alive and dying all over again. I think that was the worst part about waiting for the date to roll around--the feeling of it happening over again, even though I knew it wasn't really. Now my heart seems to know she's gone for good, and that gives me a little bit of peace.

Called my brother because he was worried about me and couldn't find my number. Tried to call my sister since, hey, it's the anniversary. But her cel number belongs to a guy with an accent now, or something, so that's out. Oh well. If she needs me she can just email or something.

Frigid In Minnesota

This morning I boiled a small pan of water, took it outside, and threw it into the air. Only two-thirds of it exploded into white vapor. CAN THIS BE THE END OF WINTER?

But seriously. A couple of nights ago, I burned the packet of wishes I had collected at my Mom's memorial service. They were basically little pieces of paper with private notes written by people who knew Mom. I asked for private thoughts and swore not to read them. Two people requested that I do so, and they were lovely.

The wish cards went into a small envelope, which I placed a bowl on the stove-top and then set on fire. The stink of burning paper proved too strong for the kitchen's puny fan, so I relocated to the bathroom midway through the burning. I propped the tiny bathroom window open about five inches to let the smoke and fumes out, and this worked wonders for the air quality.

When they were cool, I took the ashes and emptied them into a little zip-loc bag. The process was eerily similar to the heartbreaking task of scooping my Mom's ashes into another bag just like this one, but this time it was actually very mellow and nice and not creepy or horrifying at all.

After the ashes were safely sealed in the bag, I crunched them up good to destroy any sentiments that might not have been fully incinerated. Then I slid the packet under Mom's box.

Two hours later I was in dire need of a shower, but all was not well. I had left the window open all that time, and the bathroom was now freezing. Not just freezing. Frozen. As in, the shampoo and conditioner were solid as rocks. There was a thick rime of ice on the toilet's surface, and I couldn't flush until it thawed out. All this from a 5x18" gap in the window.

The shower experience itself was pretty awesome. The air was cold, the water super hot. My lungs got a spectacular steam treatment from the white clouds that quickly filled the bathroom.

Later that morning, Jesse's thrown water erupted in a proper and spectacular FLOOMP of vapor and not a drop hit the ground. Minnesota is a strange place.

PS - I've noticed quite a few people, even Northerners who should know better, have expressed disbelief at the existence of this phenomenon. You just want to cry for them.
